<hi style=afpcap>The success of the Luftwaffe's Ju 87 Stuka dive bomber in Europe resulted in the Army taking an interest in obtaining a similar capability. The Navy had the Douglas SBD which was modified for the Army as the A-24 with the deck operating features deleted. The type proved to be vulnerable during operations in the Netherlands East Indies and Australia, with these being reassigned elsewhere. Nevertheless the type was fairly successful and remained in operational service until 1950, becoming the F-24. </hi>
